Had the pot roast on special. Absolutely delicious. On par with my father in law's. Kirk was a really quirky but fun waiter. Did well with the kids and many requests. Almost ate all of my kid's hamburger. Would come back again just to get a burger. Chips are homemade and the ranch dressing was amazing (my true barometer). Great experience overall despite the slightly roadhouse exterior.

I was supposed to meet a friend at the McDonalds across the street so we could caravan to Aspen, but she was running late so I decided to have breakfast here. It is a country-kitschy sort of place with rib-sticking food -- not really my thing so I had one of their eggs benedict dishes, the veggie benedict perhaps? My eggs were a little over-poached (I like them runny) but otherwise the flavors were good. The home fries were a bit salty but had good texture. It was weird to get toast when your eggs were served on English muffins, but you won't go away hungry. Way more satisfying than an Egg McMuffin or a scone from the Starbuck's next door.

I can't believe that Erin "the waitress" said the "s" word to me. I asked her, do I look like I eat salad. The best service but I don't care for the food. This place would be stupid to get rid of lorral or Erin. Great services and very sweet. My star rating is for their service not food.

Friendly and warm. This place has a variety of ethnic foods on the menu. The decor offers a year long standing Christmas tree for good luck as well as a large teddy bear collection Our food was cooked to perfection.

Hands down best chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy. Can't go wrong with either

Awesome restaurant, outdoor patio and great staff! Erin took care of us with food recommendations, etc. and told us about a local river rafting company for after lunch!!

Excellent food...Exceptional Service. Ate here after our trip to Mt. Evans. Food did not disappoint. I ordered the trout and it was cooked perfect. My daughter ordered the chili and ordered another one right after. It was that good. My husband and sons ordered burgers and really liked it...special mention on the fries. Our server was friendly and provided excellent customer service.

We planned out to have breakfast here on Saturday morning on our trip up to Silverthorne. It's the perfect middle place between Denver and Silverthorne. This restaurant is easy to find on the right-hand side just off of the highway. It's small and right beside the Starbucks, if that's any help. We arrived at about 9am and were one of two other tables occupied. It definitely picked up after we arrived though. The decor is very unique and full of teddy bears and stuffed animal heads. I enjoyed the Christmas tree decorated with sunflowers! My husband loved it as it reminded him of restaurants back in upstate NY. The menu offers lots of delicious breakfast options and I loved that they had a full side of vegetarian dishes. I don't eat pork and so breakfast menus are often my least favourite. I went for the vegetarian omelet with a biscuit and my husband had a cheese omelet with toast. Our food arrived fairly promptly and they don't skimp on portions. My omelet was okay but as I worked my way from the right to the left, I found that the egg on the bottom hadn't been cooked and was raw and runny. Not sure how that is possible but I had to leave 1/3 of it behind. The biscuit, however, was hot and fresh and deeelicious! My husband enjoyed his meal as well, and luckily all of his eggs were cooked. Service was very good and all servers we interacted with were very helpful. My coffee cup was never more less than 3/4's full and everyone was very friendly. I would definitely come back for the biscuits and to try out the different dishes offered.

This is a wonderful stop for anyone near Idaho Springs! The best place for when you get caught in traffic in the middle of your way to the mountains. It's great for families, especially because of it's fair prices and variety. A kid friendly menu with wonderful food. Perfectly cooked burgers, and their fries are another must. All of the Mexican food won't disappoint. From tasty salsa and homemade tortilla chips to their flavorful green chile, I love it all. This is the place to go if your looking for a restaurant with a little of everything. It's right across the street from McDonalds off I-70 so it's easy to find.

Stopped in here on our way to Breckinridge. I had the Patti melt and my friends had the chicken fried steak. It was all great, highly recommend the chicken fried steak. They are huge!

Cheap decent place to eat at in Idaho Springs. They dont have any really special stuff. Their burgers are about the same price and much better than the McDonald's across the road. I would recommend it to people who are in the area. Tip : My GPS went a little insane there. There is a lot road construction going on.

If I could give a negative star I would. If you are queer, do NOT come to this establishment. My girlfriend and I are staying at the Indian Hot Springs resort, and wildfire was one of the few options in the overnight package we purchased for dinner in town. The coupon was for $20 off the meal. We have taken advantage of this package multiple times but hadn't tried wildfire yet- mainly because it is the farthest restaurant from the resort that is included in the package. We decided to walk there tonight because we wanted to have a couple drinks with dinner. At first things were nice, the chips and salsa are really good! Our server was also really sweet throughout our entire experience. Then things got weird. After two drinks each, our server approached us and told us she couldn't continue serving us drinks. She gave us the excuse that "we were drinking alcohol over 3.2%". What restaurant would ever cut off two respectable and paying customers after two drinks?! Eventually I politely questioned her again and she admitted that she felt it was strange that the manager asked her to cut us off, and also told us he/she is the MAYOR of Idaho Springs. Also, our entrees were pretty bad. I got the trout which was not fresh and super overdone. To top it off, we were about to ask for our check right when she came over to cut us off. While paying, she said she hoped we enjoyed our time and "we hope to see you back soon." Yeah, I think not. Definitely letting the resort know what happened to us in the morning. Hopefully, this is an isolated event and we weren't actually being targeted for our sexuality, but I'll tell ya it sure felt like it.

We wanted to do something away from Bailey and Conifer and I picked this place in Idaho Springs based on other Yelp reviews. I wasn't disappointed! I had a hard time leaving one bite of the double sirloin to give to the dog. No fat and no gristle and it was as good as most pricier steakhouses. Even the mashed potatoes and carrots were better than average. My friend had a Mexican dish similar to what she has made at home and described it as "solidly good." So not a fancy night out but really good, and the waitress and host were just so friendly.... A solid 4+.

Why not get the Denver Omelette? This is just the spot for a quick bite pre or post white water rafting on clear creek. It may not be up to par with Snooze, but you won't do much better in Idaho Springs.

If you are looking for inexpensive homestyle cooking stop here. It includes favorites like meatloaf and country fried steaks. They also serve Mexican food, the Chili Rellenos were really good. Not gourmet, but good for the price (about $10 an entree)

  • Joshua S.

The food here is delicious. I got a standard burger with lettuce, tomato, and bacon. I struggled to find anything wrong at all. The atmosphere is peaceful, the servers are extremely kind and courteous, and most of all, the food is amazing. If you're in the Idaho Springs area, this restaurant is a must.

Everything was great! I got the Chile rellenos and my husband got the chicken quesadilla and they were excellent. I will definitely be Going back.

I waffled back-&-forth between 4-5 stars. Only because sometimes I think the 5-stars are reserved for those froo-froo places with fine linens, a complex wine list, and snobby waiters. And that is not this place at all. But no - it gets five stars for being exactly what it is. A funky little down-home place with great American comfort food as well as some Italian and Mexican dishes thrown in the mix. As advertised painted on their window, I had the "famous" chicken fried steak. It was delicious. Mashed potatoes were amazing. It's perfectly convenient off I-70 (heading from DEN airport to Vail, CO). Friendly staff, good service, and interesting decor. Loved it!

Great place to eat right off of I70. The menu has a lot to choose from. It's your basic comfort food. I had the shrimp fajitas. My friend had the southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. We had the chicken nachos for an appetizer, which was also good except the chicken was that rubbery kind (not good). They also offer Mexican, vegetarian, and Italian.

We stopped here for breakfast before heading to Clear Creek Rafting Company. Their breakfast is great! I had their monster burrito and it was some of the best I have had. It is right in the middle of the main street that runs through Idaho Springs which means it is easy to get to. I highly recommend this place for breakfast or lunch! They have a great outdoor covered patio that we were able to enjoy because the weather was beautiful!

On a recent trip down into town we decided to try something other than our usual breakfast at the Main Street Cafe. We decided to give it a second try (we had eaten here 5 or 6 years ago and were unimpressed). I'm giving it an A-OK rating of 3 stars. Good fast service, interesting dining room, Massive chicken fried steak (and I ordered the small one). But everything seems like it comes from a package. The potatoes are just a bit too perfectly square, the sauces have "powdered mix" written all over them. The coffee is not good. Hot chocolate was good though. It's good, not great - back to the Main Street next time, but this is a decent standby.

Nice little joint in Idaho Springs. I stopped for lunch on way to Vail and experienced great service and an excellent Chicken Caesars Salad. THe price was right, very inexpensive and nice quality food. The decor is country and a bit dated but it fits the town and the vibe of the area. A nice pitstop when heading to ski country and I suspect they have a great breakfast as well.

Absolutely DELICIOUS. Great service. I highly recommend the biscuits and gravy with sausage!! yum. This is a fun, down home, people loving place!

Plenty of seating, nice variety on the menu... i wanted to try their award winning breakfast burrito but i don't eat pork- wouldn't have been a problem but their famous green chile sauce has pork in it :-( I got the French toast and the hubcap pancake with walnuts Good service, good food, good view

After arriving in town the night before during a violent storm, then walking into Wildfire the following morning and seeing a fully decorated Christmas tree, I was pretty we'd entered a time warp at some point during our wild trip. Our waitress reassured me that it really was the 1st of August. She then served us what was probably the best breakfast of our twelve day trip. Our eggs were cooked to perfection. I was served not one but two generously sized sausage patties. The coffee was good (my wife's a stickler). Unpretentious and good fare!

We had the breakfast and country burritos. Both were excellent and prices were very reasonable. Iced tea good too, and staff was helpful and honest. RECOMMENDED. Would come here again for breakfast.

Wow, no. Again, another restaurant with good reviews but with terrible food. Jesus, it was bad. I had the regular burger, medium rare -- it came out well done. Of course. It was also unseasoned. My husband had the giant country fried steak -- it was huge all right, but also topped with a lukewarm, highly gelatinous "country gravy" which was hard to stomach. He's a big guy and he didn't want to eat much of it. My kid got the chicken alfredo which was ALSO topped with a lukewarm, super gelatinous sauce. She didn't eat any of it; the texture made her sick to her stomach. I am so sure. This place is NOT worth any more than one or two stars. You have been warned.

The smothered breakfast burrito was ok. i sat outside, as the inside was decorated in the Colorado mountain hokey/tacky claustrophobic style.I don't want to eat with Granma.Thank you so very much. So, I ate on the patio, where motorcycles park 5 feet from your breakfast burrito. That hydrocarbon vapor on the burrito just adds something:extra.Oh,the burrito-how was it? Well the chorizo/over-salty hotdog thingy was a hotdog-stuffed into a breakfast burrito. The potatoes were cube-like,not to mention potato-like.How tasty.Once the temperature drops, I quit. I guess bikers will put up with this nonsense.A cynical restaurant-that's my opinion. The hotel up the street promises $73 a night rooms. This town seems a nightmare for rubes.

Very good food! I had a ham and cheese omlet with mushrooms and spinach added. Fresh mushrooms and spinach were used. My friend had the grilled trout dinner. 1/2 the trout fillet was great the other half was a little tough. Service was awesome. We'll stop again in our way up or down from skiing.

Best steaks in town. This restaurant is always constantly good home cooking. I have tried most everything on the menu. Still love the steak dinner. Try it for two for just a few dollars more. Bargain!!! The service is fantastic. Kirk is always smiling and ready to please. The prices can't be beat either. Thanks Hilldaddy and all the staff, past and present.

Country kitsch has never been my thing. I think the owner must keep her collection of teddy bears all at the restaurant. My son had a gigantic chicken fried steak, husband and I had the breakfast burrito. It was really good, but filled a little too much with spicy chorizo. The 4th of July tree was, well.....lets just say "festive".

Great Breakfast stop! Stopped here before our rafting trip and had a hearty wonderful breakfast! We sat on the patio and enjoyed the pretty flowers and cool breeze. The waitress was prompt, friendly, and accurate! She wasn't too much and everything came out really fast. Colorado is a bit more expensive than dining out in San Antonio. The food was great, location was good, and the waitress was nice!

Oh dear - somewhere in between last year and this year, something happened. The cook forgot how to cook. Last year, this was an awesome restaurant - we would stop here on our way to the mountains every week. The chicken fried steak was huge, the country gravy scratch made, the eggs awesome, and the green chili delicious. We stopped by this weekend on our way up. The staff is gone - the place was staffed by the owner and his daughter. The guy has obviously fired his cook. I ordered the eggs and sausage which comes with toast and breakfast potatoes. The potatoes were crispy (good), the eggs and sausage over cooked (bad). My wife ordered poached eggs (which were sent back they were so bad - TWICE) and the country fried steak (which was also good). I'll be giving this place another try later on in the season to see if the owner has learned how to cook eggs. However, right now I am finding somewhere else to have breakfast on my way up to the mountains.

Went for breakfast this weekend and it was so yummy. The staff was very friendly and the refills came without asking. I had the biscuits/gravy with bacon and my husband had the pancake plate. The portions are huge! We will be going back for sure next time we visit.

Returning from a trip up to Mt. Evans Summit, kids couldn't wait to make it into Denver for dinner. We found this place using Yelp. Kirk was our server and was great with an awesome sense of humor and service to go with it. The hit of the night was the Green Chili that my 5 yr old son ordered. The right amount of heat and loaded with green chilies and flavor. We split the beef fajitas, which was plenty for both of us. The meat was tender and also loaded with plenty of bell peppers and onions, which I like. I wasn't too thrilled with the corn tortillas, and I'd suggest they either make their own or find a new supplier. Being from El Paso and growing up eating fresh corm tortillas across the border, that it probably what kept me from giving the coveted 5th star.

We stopped by here on the way back from a hike. It was just what we were looking for. The mexican food was delicious and the homemade hot sauces were great. We bought a few bottles to take home. We left very full and satisfied. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone coming through the area.

What a great little restaurant. We were staying at the Indian Springs Spa and didn't know where to go for breakfast, McD's was a def. NO, so we popped in. Both of us had the ultimate omelet, it was so good and their habanero garlic sauce is to die for. Prices are right, service is outstanding. Def. a go to again!

We recently happened upon this restaurant on our way back to San Diego after dropping our daugher off at college in Indiana. We were looking for a place to eat breakfast and pulled into the parking lot intending to head to Starbucks for coffee and breakfast sandwiches. On a whim, we decided to go to next door to this nondescript, homey looking restaurant instead. What a find!!! First of all, the service was wonderful. Our waitress was attentive, fun, friendly, The coffee was delicious. I decided on huevos chile verde (over easy eggs floating in a pool of the best green chile I've ever eaten). I can't remember enjoying a breakfast more. My husband and son had eggs, meat and potatoes. The potatoes were wonderful. The best part, though, was the atmosphere of this place. We felt like we were having breakfast at a friend's house. Do yourself a favor and spend a meal at this place if you find yourself in Idaho Springs. Fabulous!

This past weekend I had an awesome breakfast here. The portions were large and very filling. The only thing I questioned was if the gravy was from scratch or from a powder.

The exterior appearance and interior decor are very... unique, but don't let it put you off. When I dined here last weekend, I remarked that it would either be the best food we ever had or the worst. Luckily, it was the former! I had the country fried steak (small size) and it was still HUGE! (Only complaint is I asked for the gravy on the side and they put it on top- waitress apologized.) They have an eclectic food offering, which could satisfy most anyone's appetite. My dining partners had hamburgers and they were fabulous! My mashed potatoes were REAL- and delicious. If you're looking for a chic, super healthy choice, this is not the place to go. If you're in the mood for some hardy food after a hike, or just want an original, non-chain restaurant, this is the place to go. And the best part is the prices are very reasonable!

The funny thing was when I told the waitress that we had come from Chicago just to come to this restaurant so Andy M could get another dish of Chicken fried steak. She didnt believe me. But really, there is no way we could have been anywhere in the state of Colorado without a trip here so the statement really is true! The vegetarian eggs benedict was a much better choice this time around, the eggs were prepared excellently, the sauce was good without that heavy hand of lemon or salt you sometimes get and the tomato was fresh. Plus the service was very attentive and it was a gorgeous day to sit on the covered patio and just take in the air & scenery. So OK, Wildfire, you get another star from me!

Someone please explain why this restaurant and "bar" doesn't serve any alcohol!?! They said they're a "family" restaurant so they don't serve alcohol...please update your listing!

The service was great, the food was even better, and it was all at a pretty reasonable price. We went with the chips and salsa with guac and it was an extremely tasty appetizer after a long hike. The chicken chimichanga was perfectly fried compared to most places and my friend's black bean burrito seemed just as good. Supposedly they have a great chicken fried steak, and that'll have to be my order next time.

First of all, the Google map mentioned in a review below has been fixed. The location, offically at 2910 Colorado Blvd (the road that comes from westbound I-70 and heads the other way into the freeway entrance for I-70 east) is now properly located. With friends, we set out from Denver to drive to the top of Mount Evans, taking the scenic highway 6. We had agreed to find a place for a good hearty breakfast in Idaho Springs. Amidst the sea of monotonous modernity we decided on a whim to try this very traditional location. We were greeted warmly at the door by the staff who love to see people's reaction to their 1950's-era 45 RPM singles jukebox. We sat outside and ordered breakfast. Unique to Wildfire's restaurant are two pepper sauces, which both I and my Mexican-born-and-raised companion sampled - a green habañero and a red cayenne sauce. Both were extraordinarily flavored, with enough kick to tingle but not overpower the scrambled eggs. The "hubcap" sized pancake (truth in advertising!) was perhaps the fluffiest I have ever eaten - as full as I was getting, I couldn't stop because it was so light! Another companion's huevos rancheros was equally as good. He loved it, and the one bite I had was excellent! According to the waitress, the owner and/or the chef (I apologize, I have forgotten, but it's one or the other) is from Texas. She informed me of this after I complimented that the grits were the best I've ever had outside of the deep south. These were so good I couldn't stop eating them with just a dab of butter long enough to add sugar - that's hard to do! This is Colorado mountain country - definitely a different environment. Low key comfort food unspoiled by being a "chain restaurant".

For starters, don't trust Yelp's map placement of this restaurant. It's on the east end of town, just before the EB I-70 ramp, not on the deserted mountain road west of town where the map shows it. Feedback has been sent to Yelp. Also, it's now called Hilldaddy's Wildfire Family Restaurant. No sign of alcohol anywhere to be found. My wife and I had spent Friday morning and early afternoon in the Georgetown/Silverton area browsing the shops and various tourist traps. On the way home we decided to stop in Idaho Springs for an early dinner. The main drag along Miner St. was bumper to bumper cars and shoulder to shoulder pedestrians, so we decided to skip it, until we spotted this nondescript joint just before leaving town. What a find! Great diner style comfort food. My chicken fried steak was melt in your mouth good, and the sides of mashed potatoes and coleslaw were fresh and seemed homemade. My wife's chicken cordon bleu sandwich was so over stuffed she abandoned the roll and used a knife and fork to eat it. On the side were homemade potato chips that were still hot and crisp when she was served. The decor is mid-70's tacky, but who cares? With food and service this good it doesn't matter. We got out of there for less than $25 including a generous tip. I'm looking forward to my next early morning trip into the mountains so I can try them for breakfast.

Every time we are driving through the area, a few times a year, we plan on stopping at the Wildfire for lunch. Friendly, down-home and good food - can't beat that. I liked the chili rellenos especially. It's a funky little place so don't plan your wedding or your corporate business meeting here. Maybe that's why we like it :)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
